VERONA' S LOVESTONES

Veronas historic town theatre, which first opened in 1846, has found a novel way to finance necessary roof repairs. Its marble-tiled terrace overlooks the balcony where, according to myth,  Shakespeares Juliet  exchanged promises of eternal love with Romeo.  The Lovestone Project, advertised on the web, offers lovers the opportunity to immortalize their eternal devotion by engraving a message on one of the 50,000 tiles. The price for this is 100 euro and a copy can be obtained upon request, at an additional cost of 25 euro. The initiative has met with great success and in less than a month, the theatre has sold and inscribed 200 tiles. The money deriving from the project will also be used to promote cultural events in the theatre programme.
