Veronas city council has come up with a sure-win idea to help fill the town coffers. Romantically minded couples can now get married inside the house of the Capulet family and have their wedding photos shot on the balcony where Shakespeare ill-starred heroine Juliet conversed with Romeo. The experience, however, doesnt come cheap. The cost for Verona residents is 600, while EU citizens will be charged 800. Couples from outside the EU, instead, will have to cough up 1000 for the privilege.
The fact that no-one knows if Romeo and Juliet ever actually existed and that the famous balcony actually comes from another building and was set up on the fasade of the Capulet mansion by shrewd city fathers in the 1930s is naturally considered irrelevant!s
