CORINALDO: HALLOWE'EN CAPITAL OF ITALY

The town of Corinaldo (Marche region) is preparing to celebrate the Celtic feast of Halloween in style. The 3-day Festival of the Witches (29 th, 30 th, 31 st October 2009) includes a big street party among giant bats, vampires and witches to reach the Tunnel of Fear  and the Tower of Transformation where make-up artists are on hand to transform the faces of visitors into something out of a horror film. All in good fun, of course, with special non-scary games for children. A highlight of the Festival of the Witches is the election of Miss Witch, open to competitors of all races, age and religion, who will be judged on their creativity in dress, hairdo, make-up, presentation, originality and all-over effect. The party ends on the 31 st October with spectacles and dancing in the streets and a gigantic firework display. Participation is free of charge.

Corinaldo is well worth a visit on other occasions. It has been nominated among the Most Beautiful Historic Towns of Italy and is the proud bearer of a European Destination of Excellence award.
