ROME ZOO CELEBRATES 100 YEARS

Romes zoo, now renamed the Biopark is to celebrate its centenary on the 5 th January 2011 with a new publication entitled The Jungle of Villa Borghese by Spartaco Gippoliti. The book recounts the history of the park from its earliest days as the zoological garden of Rome to the present day, when it has become a centre of biodiversity research for the conservation of endangered species.  The Rome Biopark is now the  second most visited scientific museum in Italy and has an ongoing reproduction and conservation  programme in cooperation with other world zoos.

Future projects include the addition of an aquarium and the restructuring of the old Egyptian House of one of the very earliest features.
