ROME: SLOW WINE PRESENTATION

The guide book, Slow Wine 2011 was presented recently at the Open Colonna restaurant in Romes Palazzo delle Esposizioni. Affiliated to the Slow Food organization, the Slow Wine guide features its selection of the best of Italys oenology production, chosen from among some 2000 wine producers throughout the country.

50 cellars were awarded the Slow Food snail symbol, with a special tribute paid to the wines of the Lazio Region, many of which have achieved a remarkable quality boost over the last few years.

The Guide sold 40,000 copies as soon as it went into distribution, a sign, according to publisher Marco Bolasco, of the publics new interest in wine, the people who produce it and its links to the territory. Carlo Petrini, the founder of the Slow Food movement, commented that there had been a renaissance in the wine world. Theres a new generation of young wine producers, putting their knowledge and enthusiasm into their work. He also advised producers to aim for a sense of identity and to avoid producing wine that was good but too similar to lots of other wines.

An on-line version of the Guide in English has been produced for distribution exclusively via App Store for  iPhone, iPad and iPod.
