The 7 th Stradivari Trophy, recently held at Il Torrazzo di Cremona Golf Club, was a highly successful fund-raising event for the Vialli and Mauro Foundation. The Foundation, created by two of Italys most famous international football stars, Gianluca Vialli and Massimo Mauro, funds research on the crippling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis ALS (SLA in Italian), also known as Lou Gehrigs Disease, after the New York Yankees baseball player who was diagnosed with the condition in 1939. 92 golfers enrolled for the Trophy contest, many of them stars of the Italian media, TV and sports world. An evening fun event, the Par Three Night Challenge, rounded off the day, with 40 sporting competitors in evening dress, without golfing shoes, in the dark and after a shot of grappa, attempting to hit their balls into the 9 th hole.

A gala dinner with the Lotteria Stradivari raffle and a prize-winning ceremony rounded off the event.

Two large donations from the association of Young Industrialists of Cremona and the cinema and cultural Associazione LUX  helped swell the takings which will be used to finance research being carried out by the scientific organization AriSLA, which specializes in this particular form of multiple sclerosis.
