VALDOBBIADENE UNCORKING CEREMONY

Venice was the chosen venue for this year's traditional ceremony of uncorking the Confraternity Bottle of Valdobbiadene DOCG. The solemn event took place in St. Mark's Square in the presence of the members of the Confraternity of Valdobbiadene (near Treviso). This year's bottle, which represents the top product of the Valdobbiadene area, was produced by Enrico Bortolomiol of the Ciodet di Valdobbiadene cellar.

The bottle was carried by gondola to St. Mark's by Grand Master Floriano Curto. Subsequently, the Brotherhood, clad in their traditional garb, accompanied the bottle to the celebrated Caffè Lavena, where the uncorking and toast drinking took place, under the mystified gaze of numerous tourists.

The Confraternity of Valdobbiadene, founded in 1946, is composed of enologists and personalities of the world of wine. Their aim is to promote and protect their wine and its territory. Every year, the Confraternity Bottle is selected from among numerous samples of Valdobbiadene DOCG and competition is fierce.

The Confraternity is following up with a Symposium at Valdobbiadene on the 17 October 2011 on the theme: Wine and Catering: how to impress the consumer. Among the illustrious speakers there will be Fausto Arrighi, Director of the Michelin Guide, Enzo Vissari, Director of the Espresso Guide and Ettore Bocchia, executive chef of the Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni of Bellagio (Como). The moderator will be Davide Di Corato, editor of the monthly magazine Chef e Arte in Cucina (Chef and Art in the Kitchen). Work will conclude with a toast  in Valdobbiadene DOCG naturally  and a buffet meal.
