ALESSANDRIA: GIO POMODORO RETROSPECTIVE



The town of Alessandria (Piedmont) is the centre of an important exhibition on the work of the great Italian sculptor Giď Pomodoro, inaugurated on the 7 December 2011 and running until the 29 April 2012. The exhibition, entitled Giď Pomodoro, Il Percorso di uno Scultore: 1954-2001, tracks the development of the artistic career of one of the greatest sculptors of the twentieth century.

The exhibition includes 173 works, distributed among museums in the province of Alessandria, situated in Acqui Terme spa, Novi Ligure, Valenza, Tortona and Casale Monferrato and includes a collection of 45 precious items from the Gori e Zucchi Museum of Arezzo, on display at the Church of San Bartolomeo of Valenza.

Among the most important works on show are the monumental Grande Ghibellina at the Palace of Monferrato,  Luoghi at the Carlo Carrď Gallery in Palazzo Guasco and the Sole Deposto at Palazzo Cuttica, Alessandria.

Giď Pomodoro died on the 21 November 2002 in his studio in Milan.
