VERONA FORBIDS LOVE NOTES AT JULIET'S HOUSE

Verona city council has decided to take drastic steps to halt the systematic defacing of its most famous monument  the Casa del Cappello, the alleged home of Juliet Capulet, Shakespeare's doomed heroine.

For years, thousands of visitors have stuck scribbled love notes all over the walls of the medieval town house, attaching them with adhesive tape or chewing gum. This will now be forbidden, penalty a fine that could be up to 500 Euro. Those wishing to leave a message must now put it on panels installed for the purpose and not on the ancient stonework. In addition, no food or drink can now be consumed in the courtyard of the house.
