Bergamo presented its Candidacy for European Capital

The Bergamo Town Council presented its Candidacy for the 2019 European Capital of Culture to the Ministry for Culture and Heritage on 11 July 2011.

During September and October 2011 many workshops were organized where those in charge of the cultural, economic, entrepreneurial and administration institutions of the territory discussed the concrete possibilities and the projects for Bergamo as European Capital of Culture. The full support of the Lombardy Region was guaranteed by the approval of motion no. 305 of 08/05/2012, resolution no. IX/443. The other Italian city candidates are: Amalfi, L'Aquila, Brindisi, Catanzaro, Lecce, Mantua, Matera, Palermo, Perugia-Assisi, Ravenna, Siena, Terni, Turin and Province, Urbino, Venice with the Northeast.
