FONDI'S SINGING BARBERS

Strolling around the medieval castle in the heart of Fondi, a lively market town near Terracina (Lazio), you can catch the strains of music wafting from the door of Amleto Parisi's barber's shop.  Amleto himself sits at the back playing the drum kit. His friends, Aldo Narlo, Fernando Nunziata, Domenica Paparello and Marco Sutzu, take turns with the mike, singing Italian, Latin american and American old favourites. Years ago, they were a semi-professional group, playing at weddings and parties. Destiny, however, sent them all on their different ways for most of their working lives. But now they are all back in Fondi, getting together every afternoon to do what they enjoy best  making music, to the delight of passers-by. Amleto's salon has become one of the most popular haunts of Fondi, where you can take a seat among the barber's chairs, scissors, towels and shaving brushes (only occasionally in use these days) and enjoy the tempo and rhythm.
