The yearly Merano Art & Nature Festival (Merano Primavera) opens on the 28th March 2015, when the town becomes a living exhibition of contemporary art with installatations and sculptures by twelve Italian and international artists. The main focus, as always, is on the celebrated gardens of the Castle of Trauttmansdorff, also known as the Garden of Sissi, after Elizabeth (Sissi), the much-loved Empress of the 19th century Austrian-Hungarian empire, whose life has been portrayed in many films and TV series. The Castle Gardens open their gates on the 1st April 2015.
The Garder of Sissi was been nominated International Garden of the Year 2013 and is famous for its floral displays in spring, with flower beds of over 350,000 bulbs. A focal point will be the installation by Japanese artist Ichi Ikedo in the Laghetto delle Ninfee (the water-lily pond).
The Art & Nature Festival runs until mid-May.
