PALESTRINA TRIBUTE BY SISTINE CHOIR

A presentation of the volume The Papal Choir During the Pontificates of Julius II to Sixtus V (1503-1590) by American researcher, professor Richard Sherr.

The book is the third in a series documenting the history of the Pope's own choir, more commonly known as the Sistine Choir, which research the origins and organization of the choir and choristers from its foundation in 1474.

The concert of choral works by Pierluigi da Palestrina, the most important composer of sacred music of the Renaissance period, was held in the ancient basilica cathedral of Sant'Agapito the Martyr, where he himself had once served as organist.

For a time, in 1555, Pierluigi was also a singer in the Pontifical Sistine Choir.
