The Foundation Carla Fendi, the principal partner of the Spoleto Festival of Two Worlds, brought an exclusive touch to the Festival closing ceremony by assigning the Foundation's Prize for Science to 2013 Nobel Prize winners Peter Higgs and Francois Englert and to the Director General of the CERN Institute (European Centre for Nucleur Research) Fabiola Gianotti, for their contributions in the field of physics. The Fendi foundation was present at the Festival with the exhibition "The Mystery of Origin" and the two installations: Myths Transfigurations and Science.

The 2018 Festival of Two Worlds at Spoleto (Umbria), now in its 61st edition, closed on an optimistic note. The difficult years after the death of founder Giancarlo Menotti seem to be definitely in the past. Organizers say that the Festival is now firmly established as one of the world's leading cultural events, attracting increasing numbers of international aficionados.

This year's edition of the seventeen day-long Festival, set against the background of one of Italy's most charming historic towns, offered a total of 148 performances and concerts. Many, like this year's new opera "Il Minotauro" by Italian composer Silvia Colasanti, have been launched at the Festival and have become part of the repertoire of other opera houses. Another Festival hit - "Jeanne d'Arc al Rogo" by Arthur Honegger, with libretto by Paul Claudel, starred a much applauded Marion Cotillard. The work debutted in 1938 and has been rarely performed since.
