Eight towns in the Castelli Romani area in the Alban Hills near Rome will be involved in a series of walking marathons following the ancient pilgrims' route of route of the Via Francigena that led from Canterbury to Rome on the 28 April 2019.

The South Francigena Marathon, divided into three different levels, starts at the town of Velletri and passes through the Archaeological Park of the Appia Antica, the Castelli Regional Park and several historic Castelli towns, such as Nemi, Rocca di Papa, Albano Laziale, Marino and Castel Gandolfo. Participants can choose to follow either the longest route of 42 kms (Velletri to Rome), or two shorter routes of 22 kms and 11 kms respectively.
