With tourism figures plummeted to an unprecedented low due to the present Covid-19 epidemic, various Italian towns are taking the opportunity to promote their image in the hope of attracting future visitors once the crisis is over and life returns to normal. Among those initiatives, the Alpine spa resort of Merano has launched #meranodallafinestra (Merano from the window) inviting citizens to photograph views of the town from their windows and balconies. These will be published on Facebook and Instagram. Merano hopes to start a trend that will be imitated by many other historic towns. Another interesting initiative comes from the beleagered city of Bergamo, in Lombardy, north of Milan, which has been badly hit by the epidemic. Bergamo has launched Bergamo Siamo Noi (We are Bergamo), an online video that shows the many beautiful monuments and piazzas of the city, interspersed with glimpses of the heroic work of hospital personnel in the present crisis.
