Sienese Masterpeices from Lindenau Museum

From the 15th March to the 6th July, an exhibition of rare and little known masterpieces of the Sienese and Tuscan schools will be on show at the Museum of Santa Maria della Scala and the National Museum, Siena.

The paintings, dating from the Gothic and Renaissance periods, belong to the collection set up by Baron Bernhard August von Lindenau in the first half of last century and later donated to his home town of Altenburg in the heart of the German region of Thuringen. The collection includes works by Guido da Siena, Lippo Memmi, Pietro Lorenzetti, Sano di Pietro, Giovanni di Paolo, Matteo di Giovani, Martino di Bartolomeo and Domenico Beccafumi and is considered one of the richest collections of the works of Sienese masters in the world, outside Siena itself. The exhibition also gives visitors a unique opportunity to see Bartolo di Fredi altar-piece depicting the Adoration of the Three Kings finally reunited with its other part, normally kept in Altenburg.
