ITALIAN HOTELS DROP THEIR PRICES

With few exceptions, hotels all over Italy dropped their prices in 2009 compared with 2008, according to the Hotel Price Index, Hotels.com, the leading world online hotel booking organization. On average, prices were down by 12%. Nonetheless, Italy still remains the 4 th most expensive lodging destination in Europe, after Switzerland, Denmark and Norway.

Best bargains compared with 2008 were to be found in Siracusa (Sicily), down 20%,  Florence, 8% and Turin,19%. However, the least expensive hotels are to be found in Catania, Naples and Palermo. A room in Catania in 2009 cost on average ‚75, placing it among the ten cheapest cities in the world.

Venice also dropped its prices by 11%, but is still considered the most expensive city in Italy, followed by Taormina.
