TRIESTE, DUINO CASTLE OPENS

The Castle of Duino,one of Trieste (Fruili-Venezia Giulia region)s most famous monuments opened its doors to visitors for the 2010 season. The castles are actually two: the New castle, which dates from the 15 th century and the adjacent Old Castle (a ruined 11 th century fortress. The Dama Bianca (White Lady) rock, which resembles a veiled woman and which has inspired many legends, juts dramatically out to sea below the ruined keep. The visit to the noble house, owned by Prince Carlo Alessandro della Torre e Tasso, the Duke of Castle Duino also includes an exhibition of historic musical instruments from the Orpheon collection and access, after 25 years, to the ruins of the adjacent Castello Vecchio (Old Castle)
