FLORENCE'S "GREAT LITTLE MUSEUMS"

The sixth edition of the seasonal tours in theGreat Little Museums series in the province of Florence is dedicated to historic villas and gardens. Tours include the botanical garden of Villa Medicea at Castello with its fountains and orangery containing the unique Bizzarria tree, grafted for the Medici family  from a lemon tree, a bitter orange tree and a citron, the nearby Villa della Petraia, another Medici treasure, and the Villa Corsini of Castello, where the Roman sculpture of Apollo Saettante is on show after more than fifty years of delicate restoration work. Also included in the itinerary are the Etruscan tomb of Montagnola at Sesto, one of the best preserved Etruscan monuments, and the Ginori Museum at Sesto, with an exhibition of porcelains dedicated to the mythical Greek sculpture of the Medici Venus.

Tours Per Ville e Giardini” till the 14 November. Free entrance with the PGM 2010 card which can be obtained free of charge from tourist offices and the main Floentine museums. From Thurs-Sun: 9-13 and 15-19. Shuttle bus from Florence station at weekends with free guided visits.
