HANNIBAL RECROSSES THE ALPS

On the 15 April 2011 at 19.30, the Solden Rettenbach glacier in the Otztal Valley at the Italian-Austrian border will be transformed into a vast theatre where 350 actors, acrobats, dancers and winter sports champions recreate the epic journey of the Carthaginian general Hannibal when he crossed the Alps in 218 BC.  The spectacular show  extends over 3 sq.km , with the action concentrated on a gigantic snow pyramid where dancers, skiers, climbers and skydivers  perform, surrounded by fleets of motor-sleighs and snow ploughs representing the elephants that accompanied the commander during his march on Rome.

The representation of Hannibal Crossing the Alps has now reached its 10 th edition and attracts some 8000 spectators.
