CINCINNATO VINEYARD PLUS

The Cincinnato wine cooperative at Cori (Lazio) has launched into tourism with the restoration of an imposing two hundred-year old farm house, with 15 rooms, a gourmet restaurant, conference room and sports facilities, set on a hill surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and woodlands. The winery, founded 76 years ago, intends to promote the area as a relaxing cultural and farm holiday destination.

The initiative, which has the backing of Cori Town Council, saw the exclusive use of local workmen and craftsmen on the building conversion and an imaginative use of local materials, such as the wood of the cellar barrels fashioned into the wall linings and bedroom furniture.

The nearby town of Cori is an important archeological site with, among other things, an ancient Roman Temple of Hercules and museum of antiquities found in the area. The winery takes its name from the 4th century BC Roman general Cincinnatus, who retired from the government of Rome and returned quietly to the simple life on his farm, believed to be in these parts.
