The Design Lab of the San Patrignano community centre of Coriano (Rimini) shows three new collections of hand crafted furniture and design objects at this year's Milan Furniture Fair, which runs till the 13th April 2014. Working with leading Italian designers Carlo Colombo, Davide and Maurizio Riva and Stefano Rossignoli, the items were created in the centre's workshops by the young men and women recovering from drug addiction and marginalization who are cared for in the community.

San Patrignano is the largest residential treatment centre of its kind in Europe. Thousands have passed through its doors since it was founded in1978 by the late Vincenzo Muccioli. Many were referred from prison or had prison sentences converted into alternative service. To date, over 25,000 young people have been treated and helped to take their place once more in society. The centre is open to all who need assistence and is free of charge, relying on donations to cover costs.

The Design Lab was set up in the 1980s in order to encourage creativity and teach trades, such as carpentry, metal working, weaving, leather work, wallpaper production and so on.

A highlight of the San Patrignano presence at the Milan Furniture Fair is the award Barrique, the third life of wood, a competition to choose the best design object made from recycled wine barrels.
