MARINELLI FOUNDRY BELL FOR INDONESIA

Risultati immagini per marinelli campane

Three bells commissioned by the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Jesus at Sanggau, Indonesia, from the historic Marinelli Bell Foundry of Agnone (Molise) are due to be installed shortly in the Cathedral in West Borneo.

The bronze bells were ordered a year ago and were cast according to ancient church ritual. Last October, they were transported to the Vatican and blessed by Pope Francesco before they were returned to Agnone to be fitted with modern mechanical and electronic ringing systems.

The biggest bell weighs 220 kg and rings the musical note of Do. The second, which weighs 110 kg, rings Mi and the third (70 kg) sounds the note of Sol.

The town of Agnone has been fusing bells from time immemorial and the Marinelli Bell Factory is considered to be the oldest of its kind in the world. It has produced many famous bells, such as the Bell of the Unification of Italy, the Peace Bell in Tirana and the Jubilee Bell for the Church Jubilee in 2000.

Guided tours are available at the museum, dedicated to pope John Paul II.
