The medieval hilltown of Murlo (Siena, Tuscany) launches its first Bluetrusco Festival on the 3rd July 2015, with an intriguing mix of jazz and Etruscanology. The event takes the form of a journey with the Etruscans of yesterday and today, according to Murlo Town Council, who are organizing the festival with the support of the Siena Museums Foundation (Fondazione Musei Senesi), the Archaeological Heritage Department of Tuscany, along with important contributions from the regional government and local universities.

Over the last few years scientists have been focussing on a long-unsolved mystery: where did the Etruscans come from? Were they an indigenous race or did they arrive from north of the Alps or from the Middle East? Recent studies of local DNA seem to trace a link between the modern inhabitants of some small towns in Tuscany, such as Murlo, and the peoples of Anatolia. As a result, the Ambassador of the Turkish Republic in Italy, Aydin Adnan Sezgin will be one of the guests of honour at the inaugural ceremony.

The month-long programme includes perfomances by international artistes such as Moni Ovadia and David Riondino, Nir Felder, Stefano Cocco Cantini, Ares Tavolazzi and Giulio Stracciati.

The event coincides with the recent excavation campaign undertaken by the University of Massachusetts Amherst at the local site of Poggio Civitale.

The Festival closes on the 2nd August 2015 .
