It is difficult to imagine a more superb setting for one of Shakespeare's best loved tragedies Romeo and Juliet than Villa Da Porto at Montorso Vicentino. Part of the Ville Venete Festival programme, Opera in Love Romeo & Juliet, takes a fresh approach to the timeless tale of the star-crossed lovers, with the accompaniment of baritone and soprano voices to add extra atmosphere. The Villa Da Porto was the residence of Luigi da Porto, the 16th century writer who is believed to have inspired Shakespeare.
This production closes, on the 28th July 2015, the Shakespeare in Villa programme produced by the Soledatre company, which also starred U2Macbeth (performed in Villa Sagramoso at Illasi a medieval country estate) and Iago (in the 15th century Villa La Mattarana, Verona).
