Gubbio (Umbria), one of the best preserved Medieval cities in Italy, presents a breathtaking 360° overview of the Middle Ages between the 30th September-4th October 2015. The Festival del Medioevo seeks to cast new insights into the long-ago world that stretched from the fall of the Roman Empire and the invasions of the barbarians till the dawn of the Renaissance,

Organizers stress that this will not be a typical folklore event, but rather a full immersion into the realities of the Medieval world, with the backing of prestigious scientific institutions such as the Italian Early Medieval Study Centre Foundation (CISAM), the Italian Late Medieval Study, the Faculty of Literature of the University of Perugia and the Perugia Academy of Fine Art. During the five-day festival over fifty authors and Medievalists will expound on themes ranging from the political and civic organization of the first comunes, the birth of banks and universities, religious faith and occult practices, herbal medicines, the Templars, the role of women in society etc., shedding light on many little known aspects of the age and dismantling myths and misconceptions.

Being Italy, it will not all be work and no play. The event will also include concerts, exhibitions, guided tours, a Medieval Book Fair, children's activities, medieval banquets, films, crossbow exhibitions, flag throwing parades (the Gubbio Sbandieratori team is famous) and naturally  food and wine tastings, all held in some of Gubbio's most beautiful churches and cloisters, palace and piazzas.

Main sponsors are the Umbria Regional government, the Chamber of Commerce and RAI Italian state TV.
