HEMP MAKES COMEBACK

The Canapa Mundi fair, programmed for the 19th - 21st February 2016 at the PalaCavicchi venue near Ciampino Airport, Rome, aims to promote the many uses of the hemp plant as a health and eco-sustainable product of the future.

The much maligned hemp plant was widely cultivated in Italy until the mid-20th century, when its fibre was used for many purposes. However, its association with the drug marijuana led to a sharp decline in cultivation or a total ban.

Organizers stress that the useful (and non hallucinogenic) Cannabis sativa should not be confused with the drug although it originates from the same plant genus. Modern use ranges from the production of paper, fabrics and alternative fuel and plastics.

A special section of the Fair will be dedicated to hemp as a food source, due to its many nutritious qualities. Draft hemp beer will also be available.
