On the 29th - 31st July 2016, Arezzo (Tuscany) takes a time trip back into the past. Over 1000 costumed characters and 50 historical re-enactment groups will congregate in this beautifully preserved medieval town to recreate the Roman era, the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
Over 100 themed performances will provide round-the-clock entertainment during the three-day event, with free shows every evening between 6 and 11pm.
Ancient Rome will be set up, appropriately enough, in the local Roman Amphitheatre, while the Fortress hosts the Middle Ages.The central Piazza Vasari, instead, is the venue for the Renaissance.
The three epochs will be portrayed through scenes of everyday life, with soldiers, craftsmen, sword fights, jesters, weaponry exhibitions, tournaments and various games, while bands of musicians and costumed processions circulate among the market stalls and workshops.
Arezzo Back in Time is organized by the town council of Arezzo with the collaboration of the Civitas Rerum, the association coordinating the historic groups from all over Italy.
