Men and women of the First Tuscania Regiment of the Carabinieri Forestry Corps make up the team of Italian tractor drivers heading across Africa on a 6,000 km 55-day journey which started in Cape Town, South Africa at the beginning of April 2018.
The four McCormick X8 and X7 off-road tractors, equipped with BKT tyres manufactured by the Balkrishna Industries of Mumbai, India, will face extreme conditions during an itinerary that includes the semi-arid landscape of the Karoo, the Garden Route along the Indian Ocean, game parks and the 3000m-high Drakensburg Mountains to reach Johannesburg, touching a total of thirty-five check points.
The participating tractors are from the ARGO manufacturing group of Fabbrica, Reggio Emilia, the parent company of McCormick tractors. The expedition aims to heighten awareness of the environmental problems, the use of resources and health and nutrition in collaboration with AMREF, the biggest non-profit health organization working in Africa.
