Vienna Cammarota, coordinator and guide of Aigae Campania (the Italian Association of Environment and Excursionist Guides) has reached Selinunte (Sicily) after a 2,700 km trek following the footsteps of the German poet and dramatist Wolfgang Goethe.

Vienna left the city of Karlovy Vary, Goethe's starting point, on the 28 August 2017, and followed his route through Innsbruck and the Brenner Pass into Italy and on down the entire Italian peninsula. At the archaeological site of Selinunte (which, however, Goethe did not visit though he reached nearby Castelvetrano) she presided over the ceremony of the recovery of the 1.60 m deep  V-VI century AD Byzantine Baptistry, which experts consider to be the first full immersion baptismal basin in Italy.

The Archaeology Park of Selinunte offers visitors other new treats with the exhibition Living in Selinunte, which shows a virtual reconstruction of the city when it was a prosperous Greek colony 2,700 years ago, along with the many archaeological finds recovered during recent excavations.

Goethe travelled for two years in Italy (1786-88). His account of the places he visited and the marvels he saw had an enormous influence on his fellow countrymen, giving impetus to the phenomenon we know as the Grand Tour.
