Serrapetrona (Macerata, Marche), one of the towns badly hit by the earthquake of 2016, makes a brave comeback with the event "Appassimenti Aperti" that showcases its autochthonous Vernaccia Nera grape. On Sundays 11 and 18 of November 2018 visitors are invited to the local wine cellars to taste the Serrapetrona DOC wine and the rare red spumante  Vernaccia di Serrapetrona DOCG, the only red spumante docg to be subjected to three fermentation processes.

The Vernaccia Nera grape is cultivated in difficult mountainous terrain that leaves a unique stamp on the wine. The Appassimento process involves drying harvested grapes on racks or straw mats for weeks or months to concentrate the sugars and flavor.

During the event visitors can also admire the skeleton of a dinosaur that walked the earth 75 million years ago exhibited as part of the Paleontology exhibition at Palazzo Claudi, as well as the works of art in the Church of San Francesco and the Church of Santa Maria, re-opened for the first time since an earlier earthquake of 1997.
