The major exhibition of the works of Spanish artist Pablo Picasso at Milans Palazzo Reale, which opened on the 20 September 2012 and ended on the 27 January 2013, was the most visited exhibition in Italy, with an average 4,325 visitors per day and a total 558,000 presences.

With the latest edition to its sculpture collection, inspired by local mythology centred on the Roman goddess Diana, the small town of Nemi possesses a unique heritage of open air bronze statuary. The works have all been donated to the town by the eminent Roman artist Luciano Mastrolorenzi.

Archaeologists made an exciting discovery during recent excavations in the vicinity of Romes second airport, Ciampino. During soundings for a new building development, a 1 st century BC swimming pool came to light, complete with seven colossal statues illustrating the Greek myth of Niobe.

For the tenth year running, Ortisei, the famous Alto Adige-Trentino ski resort, will be holding its ice sculpture contest. For four days between the 14-18 January 2013, 18 students of the Ortisei Art College and the School of Arts and Handcrafts will be furiously at work, modelling blocks of ice of various dimensions.
