GIANT FISH FRY AT CAMOGLI (Genova)

The town of Camogli in the Province of Genoa is getting ready for the annual Fish Festival, this year in its 57 th edition. On Sunday 11 th May more than 30 quintals of sardines and anchovies will be used in a massive fry-up in a gigantic frying pan for the 100,000 visitors who are expected to attend the event, which is sponsored by Friol, a well-known Italian frying oil producer.

The fish are fried in a gigantic pan that weighs 26 quintals and has a diameter of three metres 80. This is the fourth pan made especially for the festival. The first one fell into the sea in 1959 and the second and third are no longer usable.

The event coincides with the Feast of St. Fortunato, the local patron saint of fishermen.
