CAMOGLI GRAND FRY-UP

The 58 th Fish Festival at Camogli (near Genoa) is to be held on the 10 th May. The annual event, which was set up in 1952 by a group of local fishermen in honour of their patron saint, San Fortunato, has developed into one of the regions biggest annual appointments. It is anticipated that 30,000 portions of fresh fried fish will be distributed to visitors from all over Italy who queue up eagerly at the specially constructed gigantic frying-pan, which has a diameter of 3.80 metres and weighs 26 quintals. The present maxi-pan used for the event, was forged for the 50 th anniversary of the Festival and is the fourth in the series. The first one fell into the sea in 1959 and the second and third are no longer usable.
