UNDER THE DOLOMITES

Dedicated hikers can follow a series of interesting excursions through the tunnels under the Marmolada peaks of Col di Lana, Tofane, Cristallo and Tre Cime di Lavaredo in the Trentino region of the Dolomites this autumn. Between 1915 and 1917 these mountains were the scene of some of the most bitter battles of the First World War. The pathways traced out by the soldiers now make one of the most taxing and fascinating Alpine treks over high passes and through deep tunnels linking the various military camps. Along the way, you can visit several commemorative monuments, shrines and museums.
