SPIRIT OF SCOTLAND IN ROME

Over a thousand visitors poured into the stylish marquee in the grounds of the Aranceta di San Sisto in Rome to attend the first Spirit of Scotland Festival to be held in Rome. The two day event (10-11 March 2012) was a showcase of Scotch whisky, with more than 400 labels present and available for tastings.

Gastronomic treats participating in the Festival included Loch Duart smoked salmon, shortbread and traditional Scottish biscuits, as well as exclusive sundries, such as master class rum, beer, cheese, cigars and chocolate and dark chocolate and whisky being the latest gourmet coupling.

Italo-Scottish twinning was in evidence with the presence of Italian importers, including the well-known Samaroli company, which was the first Italian importer to select and bottle whisky directly from Scottish distilleries to create its own exclusive blends.

Entertainment was provided by the City of Rome Pipe Band in full Highland regalia, while chef Iason Hannick provided participants with delicious smoked salmon finger food.

The Milan version of the Spirit of Scotland Festival, now into its seventh edition, is scheduled for the 10-11 November 2012.
