ANTINORI NEW CELLAR-CATHEDRAL

Antinori a Bargino: la cantina che non c'è | Paola Bertoletti

Celebrated Tuscany wine producer, Marquis Piero Antinori, has inaugurated the familys new wine cellar at Bargino, near San Casciano Val di Pesa (Tuscany). The structure of the vast cellar has been inspired by Florentine Renaissance architecture, with three 75m-long naves to contain the 2.5 million bottles of classic Chianti wine produced by Antinori per annum.

Concealed inside a hillock, the cellar has no artificial refridgerated system. As in the past, the natural temperature of the underground cellar can be relied on to keep the wine cool. The cellar, which will be open to visitors, also contains a museum, tasting room, a restaurant, bookshop and other attractions.

The Antinori family stress that the cellar has been designed to blend in with the environment. A vineyard is to be planted on the cellar roof.
