The XIII Biennial of Architecture, directed by David Chipperfield, remains open in the Gardens of the Arsenal until the 25 November 2012. Entitled Common Ground, this edition aimed to create a unifying theme among participants.
The Japanese pavilion won the Golden Lion for the Best National Participation. The team, headed by architect Toya Ito presented its project for a new centre designed for a disaster area. The Golden Lion for the Best Project embodying the theme of Common Ground was awarded to the Torre Davis/Gran Horizonte 2012 transformation project in Caracas by Urban-Think Tank. The Silver Lion for the most promising practice went to Grafton Architects, Ireland, for a university campus in Lima. Special mentions went to projects from Poland, USA, Russia and Italy.
