Nutella chocolate spread, one of Italy's most successful exports, celebrates its 50th birthday this year with a special commemorative stamp issued by the Italian post office, featuring the classic Nutella jar that is expected to be a hit with stamp collectors.

The weekend of the 16th-18th May marked a series of events, starting in Alba (Piedmont), the seat of the mother factory, along with celebrations in other major Nutella establishments and market places in the UK, Canada, Naples, Germany, France, Russia, Poland, Dubai and New York, as well as private festivities in the Romania and Australia company subsidiaries. Throughout the year, the Nutella anniversary awareness campaign will be spread through fifty countries.

Nutella (from the English word nut) hit the market in 1964 and was an instant success. Developed by confectioner Michele Ferrero, who changed the name and the formula of the Supercrema created by his father, the hazelnut and chocolate spread is a world best seller with a registered turnover of 8 million and sales of 365,000 tons of product in 2014. Based on a secret blend of hazelnuts, cacao, sugar, vegetable oils and powdered milk, Nutella has always remained unchanged throughout its history and in every world market, relying on the freshness of its natural ingredients for its unique flavour. In fact, it has never been successfully imitated.

The Ferrero company is a splendid example of a classic Italian family business, with great attention paid to the welfare of its employees in every country.
