PROSECCO OUTDOES CHAMPAGNE

The glasses raised to salute the New Year were very likely filled with prosecco, which has now overtaken champagne in popularity, according to the latest wine export figures. During the past year, 307 million bottles of prosecco were sold, compared with the 304 million bottles of French champagne. The USA is one of the best markets for the Italian bubbly, thanks to advertising campaigns which aimed at presenting prosecco as a drink not restricted to special occasions. In fact, prosecco has rapidly gained a prominent place as a trendy aperitif, and has proved to be particularly popular with women.
