Thirty-seven Italian borghi (historic villages) have launched the project Tourism: Eco&Slow with the intention of attracting both Italian and foreign visitors who have done all the celebrated art cities. The towns, which belong to the Associazione Borghi Autentici di Italia (Association of Authentic Italian Borghi), are putting together tourism packages to coincide with the imminent EXPO Milan Fair (1st May-31st October 2015) in the expectation that many visitors will want to take the opportunity to explore the innumerable hidden treasures of art, architecture, local gastronomic specialities and folklore events that are to be found all over the peninsula.
The towns are part of a web network connecting 220 small communities who believe that small is beautiful. The Eco&Slow project contemplates a sojourn in the community, with participation in village life and the chance to explore wine cellars, farms and local sights and monuments.
