Set in the heart of Preci, one of Umbria's most charming villages, the “Agli Scacchi” hotel is a perfect base for nature lovers wishing to explore the unspoiled wilds of the Sibillini National Park. The hotel, a historic residence once belonging to the Scacchi family, a dynasty of doctors and surgeons celebrated all over Europe during the 16th and 17th centuries, has been tastefully restored by owners Anna and Alberto Quaglietti, keeping many of the old features, such as wooden rafters and a huge stone fireplace in the lounge. This small, family-run hotel is an oasis of peace, situated 600 m up in the mountains overlooking the valley and immersed in woodland and meadows.
The gourmet restaurant “Agli Scacchi” is justly celebrated for the finest home cooking, based on seasonal local products. Situated in the congenial atmosphere of the former wine cellars of Palazzo Scacchi, the dining-room is cosy and intimate. In the summer, guests can enjoy eating al fresco on the terrace above the swimming pool, with a sweeping view over the surrounding landscape.
Preci is a beautifully preserved medieval borgo, immersed in hills and woods. Of great interest: the Preci Surgery Museum, documenting the medical practices and instruments of the famous Preci surgeons and the nearby Benedictine Abbey of St. Eutizio with the Diocesan Museum. The town of Norcia, well-known for its truffles and pork meat specialities is less than 10 km away.Â
