Fifty-five of the 154 pavilions at EXPO 2015 are decorated with ceramic tiles Made in Italy, according to reporter Francesca Filippi in Il Messaggero newspaper. These include some of the most spectacular pavilions in the six month-long world exposition, such as those belonging to Italy, Japan, the USA, Kuwait, Ecuador, Brazil and Turkey. Even the Chinese fell under the spell of Italian creativity, using Italian tiles to cover the shining red coil of the dragon's tail in its much admired Vanke Real Estate pavilion.

Italy produces an average 360 million sqm of ceramic tiling and panels per year, 85% of which are exported, and employs just under 20,000 people. Cersaie 2015, the yearly ceramic trade fair, now into its 33rd edition, was recently held at Bologna.

It involved 872 exhibitors, over two thirds of which were Italian, and drew almost 100,000 visitors from all over the world.
