The Mediterranean Archaeology Tourism Trade Fair (Borsa Mediterranea del turismo Archeologico) announces a first for this year's edition the institution of an Archaeology Discovery Award. The event, held in Paestum (Campania) between the 29th October - 1st November 2015, claims to be the only Exposition in the world dedicated to the promotion of archaeology tourism.

The first-time award for the most significant archaeological discovery of the year goes to Greek archaeologist Katerina Peristeri for her work on the Tomb of Amphipolis, Macedonia. Runners up were: the oldest human footprints in Europe (UK), the Tomb of Khentakawass III (Egypt),Tomb with the chariot of a Gaulish prince (France) and the Treasure of Orselina (Switzerland).

The award has been instituted by the Fair and Archeo magazine, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.

The growing popularity of tourism to ancient sites attracts the participation of 100 exhibitors from 20 countries  to this year's 18th edition. Last year drew over 10,000 visitors to Paestum for the event.

Special guest on Friday 30th October will be Dr. Mohammad Saleh, the last director for tourism at Palmyra before it was occupied by IS fanatics.
