The Luminaria – the picturesque candlelit procession in honour of San Costanzo, the patron saint of Perugia (Umbria) – will take place on the 28th - 29th January 2016. This festival dates back seven centuries and involves the entire population. The procession was instituted by the ruling Priors in the 1310. Traditionally, all creeds and faiths, as well as non-believers, are invited to take part.

The procession follows the Sacred Route from the Church of Sant'Ercolano to the Basilica outside the city walls, where the saint's relics are kept and will be led by the Cardinal Archbishop of Perugia and Città della Pieve along with the mayor and city authorities.

For the occasion, the town's bakeries are busy preparing the traditional torcolo cake, slices of which will be distributed in the streets and piazzas.
