An exciting new museum for jazz fans: celebrated saxophone and clarinet musician Attilio Berni has opened the doors of his private collection to the public in the town of Maccarese, near Fiumicino Airport, Rome. Claimed to be the biggest collection of saxophones in the world, Berni's collection ranges back to the birth of the instrument invented by Adolphe Sax in 1846 and includes examples of masterpieces constructed by famous sax manufacturers like Conn-Selmer, King, Buescher, The Martin, Buffet Crampon, Rampone & Cazzani, and Couesnon, as well as jewels like the tiny 32 cm soprillo, the rare and precious Conn-O-Sax and mythical Selmers that belonged to Sonny Rollins and Tex Beneke. The most stunning instrument on display is the gigantic subcontrabass saxophone J'Elle Stainer – a monster over two and a half meters high, which is listed in the Guinness Book of Records.

The Museum is open in the afternoons Mon-Fri.
