ART: REAL OR FALSE?

An unusual exhibition of counterfeit works of art is on view in the foyer of the Aula Magna of the School of Letters, Philosophy and Languages of the Uni Tre University of Rome. The works have all been sequestered from crooked dealers and salerooms by the Nuclei del Comando Carabinieri per la Tutela del Patrimonio Culturale (TPC), the special branch of the Italian Carabinieri corps created for the protection of the nation's cultural heritage. In Difesa della Bellezza (In Defence of Beauty) is the title of the exhibition of 108 works of modern art, skilful imitations of masterpieces by Italian artists like Burri, Schifano, Sironi, Balla and Fattori, have been analysed and exposed by lecturers, students and experts at the Laboratorio del Falso Institute, Department of Humanistic Studies at the Roma Tre University. The exhibition also celebrates the 50th anniversary of the institution of the TPC. Open until the 18th December 2019.
