The Slow Food organization has launched its new campaign: Our Food, Our Planet, Our Future, involving every aspect of its vast global network in 160 countries. The year-long event commemorates the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Slow Food Manifesto in Paris in 1989, which marked a turning point in the way that modern food production throughout the world was perceived, consumed and handled. Special events on the calendar include: the Canadian Earth Market, celebrating “the best of good, clean and fair food, a gastronomic festival in the Andes in Colombia, featuring local chefs, the Slow Food Valmiermuiza Community in Latvia, exploring sustainable food for future generations that will not have a negative impact on the planet, the Monza and Brianza Convivium in Italy, with a dinner menu reproducing the dishes served at the Manifesto signing, a celebration of Tunisia's culinary memory with the object of introducing gastronomic traditions of the past to the young generation, the Butembo Convivium in Congo, concentrating on local food rather than imported products, the Kapuas Hulu Convivium in Indonesia, focussing in particular on tengkawang nut oil, a Slow Food Presidium and an essential local product, and finally, the Slow Food Auckland Convivium in New Zealand, to be celebrated with a mass picnic in one of the city parks. Meanwhile, Slow Food has announced next year's major event: the 13th edition of the Salone del Gusto (Food Salone) in Turin between the 8th - 12th October 2020, which brings together farmers, fishermen and food growers from all over the world.
