The Marche regional capital, Ascoli Piceno, is hosting an exhibition of the first restored works of art recovered from the earthquake that devastated central Italy in 2016. Entitled: Rinascimento marchigiano. Opere d'arte restaurate dai luoghi del sisma (Renaissance art of the Marche region. Restored works of art from the earthquake zone), the exhibition, held in the Malatesta Fortress, displays 37 works dating between the 15th - 18th century by artists born or connected with the Marche, such as Jacobello del Fiore, Vittorio Crivelli, Cola dell'Amatrice, Giovanni Baglione and Giovanni Serodine. The works, many of which were in badly damaged churches and shrines, have been restored by local experts, in collaboration with the Universities of Camerino and Urbino and sponsored by the Marche branch of ANCI (National Association of Italian Towns), the Pio Sodalizio dei Piceni (Pious Fellowship of the Piceni people) and the local regional Department of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape. The exhibition runs in Ascoli Piceno until the 31st January 2020, after which it will move on to Rome. Meanwhile, fun promotional events run through the Christmas season at the Malatesta Fortress, including seasonal Tombola sessions for adults and children based on the works of art in the exhibition.
